…and here’s my top tip I gave her that concerns you!
... and it was pretty exciting! Except I probably spoke too much and overwhelmed the poor kid :(
I was pretty passionate talking about 2 of my favorite things - entrepreneurship and fitness, so I had to catch myself from "fire hosing" my interviewer with too much information and stories.
There was one answer in particular I gave I'm going to share with you here as it very much concerns you...
Workout Hero Legend Mary introduced a senior high school student to me yesterday that was needing to do an interview for a school project.
I'm not sure this bright young lady is okay being named so we'll just call her "K".
K is real big into sports and hockey and loves fitness and working out. She shared that she is looking to open up her own gym one day.
At first she was just to shadow me leading a workout session, but I told her she would probably get more out of it by jumping in.
So she did! And so did Mary!
even though she already worked out that morning already. (Such an amazing lady!)
After some sweat got poured and abs worked, it was time for some questions...
I don't remember the specific wording of the question, but it went something like this:
"What is the most important thing for the success of your business?"
My answer:
"The biggest thing is making sure the "product" is good and getting results for people. That they are enjoying the workouts and not hating the process...
... and this "product" is the workout and training experience itself.
It's like opening a restaurant and if the food sucks, it doesn't look good for the success of that restaurant" :)
Earlier this week a Workout Hero made this comment about working out here:
"Your workouts are easy to love", she said.
Just last week, after crushing another workout and feeling good about her growth and progress so far, another Workout Hero said this to me as she was leaving...
"Yeah, I'm not hating this so I'll be back" 😁
Now that's some wisdom for success there. Sure is easy doing the things that bring the results you're after... when you don't hate those things. :)
Now they are pretty awesome workouts, I love designing them and using ideas from fellow Workout Heroes that are secret fitness geniuses (like Jeni/Barbie!)
Don't get me wrong, I wish I could take full credit for why this Workout Hero Club "product" is so well liked, but...
... a big part of this "product", is definitely your fellow Workout Heroes you're working out with.
Not gonna lie, there’s something special going on with us Workout Heroes.
One of the benefits of being up there in years (at least compared to my high school interviewer!) is that I've been around enough people to have good sense of them...
We are like the perfect combination of working hard, working smart, with all sorts of kindness, sweetness, professionalism, integrity, and heart mixed in.
I'm just loving how our community is coming together and supporting one another. It's like we can relate to one another and knowing we're all in this for the right reasons together.
Another new Workout Hero that just joined shared how everyone has been so nice to her.
I so appreciate you, Workout Hero, for being so kind and welcoming to our new members.
If this Club continues to be a success and be a force for good in Eau Claire here, it will be because of you.
Gyms and this fitness world can be so scary and you're helping to change that for these new Workout Heroes so they can discover the best versions of themselves in honor of their loved ones.
I shared with K, my interviewer, that I could have the best marketing in the world, but if people were coming in, having a crappy time, not seeing results... (aka my "product" sucked) then I wouldn't be in business very long.
I could be the most knowledgeable, the most entertaining, tell the best stories, be the best looking (Lord knows I'm NOT! :) trainer ever...
... but if none of that helped people get results and solve their problems, none of it matters.
That's when I told her if she wants a career in this fitness world, then her best bet is to go out there and start getting results for others.
Train them for free.
Discover the things that work. Things that don't. How to teach ideas and lessons to others so that it makes sense to them.
Find out who you work best with. I shared with K that I've had plenty of clients that started working with simply because of my story.
Of how I went through transformations of my own. But that just got my "foot in the door", if you will. I still had to deliver results and give them effective workouts (that they at least don't hate 😉)
K is still so young yet, just a senior in high school, so she has her life in front of her that could go in any number of directions... so it'll be interesting to see what happens with her.
With that said, Kason just laid down for a nap, and its time for mine too (some things never get old ;) )
May you stay on the Path of the Workout Hero because your awesome future awaits!
