Sometimes our Fitness Motivations change, my dear Reader.
Today we are going to talk about a Workout Hero that worked her way up the ranks to become a Workout Hero Beast…
… from there we’ll talk about how her story is a wonderful example of how fitness has changed and evolved in her life over the years.
You might know who this person is considering it seems like EVERYONE in Eau Claire knows her…
… my very own Big Sis – Sabrina Spiegel!
In case you missed it, here is the tribute letter I posted all over the socials last week about her and feel free to click on over to see the pictures and videos of her.
This is now about the 4th time I’ve returned to this post to write something in honor of my sister, Sabrina Spiegel’s accomplishment in becoming an official Workout Hero BEAST…
… you see, each time I start to write, I start writing and tears begin to cloud my vision. Tears of love, joy and gratitude I have for this amazing big sista of mine.
My son Kason is now almost 18 months old and parenting him has brought back dreams and flashbacks of my own toddlerhood. Sabrina was 4 years old at the time of my birth. With our parents really busy with housework, careers, putting food on the table and mom pregnant again very soon after with our younger sister Nicole Spiegel…
it was Sabrina that stepped up to help my parents out – caring for me like a second mom. In each and every one of my dreams and flashbacks to me as a toddler, it is always my sweet big sis that’s in all of them. Always hovering around me and keeping me safe.
Hugging me.
Making me feel loved.
She has been there for me and looking out for me ever since. Whether it was protecting me from bullies in school…
… or lending me money during tough times as an adult…
… the love for her family knows no limits. Sabrina was my first ever Personal Training client back in 2009 when she did her first bodybuilding show and she’s been crushing it in this fitness world ever since.
Her achieving this rank of Workout Hero Beast is just one more piece of evidence of the many talents she possesses…
> Sabrina is a world class hair stylist and owner of one of the top hair salons in Eau Claire, Saylon 7, LLC
> She is also an amazing mother of 4 wonderful kids. Despite being incredibly busy and having more than enough stress on her plate, Sabrina always finds a way.
One of my favorite quotes of hers is when she said, “I’m allergic to average” Greatness wasn’t handed to her. She’s fought for every inch of it…
and won.
They’ve tried to ruin her. To bring her down. Take her strength. Dishonor her integrity. To discredit her and claim glory away…
… yet through it all she has only used them to grow stronger. As fodder for her limitless noble impact.
She perfectly represents what it means to be a Workout Hero –
— She crushes her workouts not only for herself…
… feeding her now BEAST MODE nature…
… but also in honor of her loved ones.
Knowing that showing up as the best version of herself is how winning at business and life is done.
Here’s to you, my amazing and beautiful big sis…
… Me and this Workout Hero Club we’re building to help positively impact our Eau Claire community and change some lives – certainly wouldn’t exist without you!
May you wear your ‘Beast Mode’ shirt with pride and honor as it marks much significance in the story of your growing legend.
Ahh, my big sis, don’t know where I’d be without her. 🩷
Now let’s get into what she has to do with our Fitness Motivations.
I actually can’t recall a time when Sabrina wasn’t a part of a gym and working out in some way.
Even though her fitness actions and behaviors never changed, her motivations behind them certainly did.
You hear me talk about first becoming aware of what your number is in terms of relationship to fitness and workouts…
… on a scale of 1-5, with 1 being it sucks, you hate, it’s a chore — and 5 being you love it, knowing where you are on that scale determines a lot of your Fitness Motivations.
4’s and 5’s, which I suspect where my sister is at, tends to not struggle too much for fitness motivations.
They tend to not struggle with the ‘staying motivated’ part.
Workouts are their own good time.
Bring their own inherent rewards.
They like doing them.
It’s like being “genetically blessed” but only in the Fitness Motivations department.
Typically a lot of people get into working out and fitness to get some sort of result:
— to lose x amount of weight
— look a certain way and look better
— feel and move younger
— put on some muscles
— lower their risk for certain diseases or conditions
— have energy
Then depending on where they are at on the scale, they either keep at it or fall off once they achieve the thing that want (which motivation tends to where off before said thing is achieved)
Which brings us back to Sabrina.
I’m not sure when it began for her, probably in high school as she was a big athlete back then.
She’s just always been working out her entire adulthood.
During her 20’s she mostly just ran and did her own weight training at the gym.
She did it because she liked to look good.
She did her first and only bodybuilding show in her early 30’s and that was her challenge and focus for awhile.
She said she was in awe of the females that did bodybuilding shows and wanted to challenge herself to see if she could do it.
After that she became a member of our group workouts at Highland.
Which was a lot of functional training and cardio, but not much resistance or strength training.
Continued that group dynamic with the Dragonfly Dance and Wellness gym – the gym that is right next to her hair salon – Saylon 7.
She has constantly been going to Yoga classes and loves that side of fitness too.
She’s continued to stay in great shape and get stronger with each passing year.
A big part of her motivations during this phase was wanting to show up as the best version of herself.
To stay in good health and be there for her kids.
She’s had a couple of kids in the last 10 years, and so then that became many of her seasons.
Working to shed the baby weight and get back to where she once was.
She’s had a few ups and downs as an adult.
Both in business and relationships, yet through it all, workouts and fitness has been her rock.
The thing she can always count on.
Can keep going back to in order to feel better.
It’s why one of the lines in our Workout Hero Manifesto goes like this:
“Workouts are my friend. Never leaves. Never freaks out on me. Always something to give…
… a way to make me a better version of myself. To discover my greatness and truth in honor of those I love.”
The main lesson I would like you to take from Sabrina’s story as it relates to fitness is to know that there is no one fitness motivation.
That you can have many.
Often at the same time.
They can even change as you evolve yourself and go through seasons.
The gyms that Sabrina has worked out at has changed immensely over the years.
Even the ways she’s worked out has changed.
She has made a commitment to always have workouts and fitness be a part of who she is.
A commitment on behalf of herself and what feeds her soul, as well as those she loves.
With that, I’ve got to skeedaddle, looks like baby Kason is waking up from his nap. 🙂
May Sabrina’s story help you out.
Oh and remember, your awesome future awaits!

Mr Trainer man Erick
