… That was the line my wife texted me this morning around 7 am.
Our 1 year old son, Kason, was wide awake inside his crib…
… but wifey wasn’t.
We just celebrated her 40th birthday yesterday, and let’s just say that she was up a little later than expected. ๐
I was more than happy to take over “baby duties” so that she could get some more sleep.
“Happy wife = Happy life” after all ๐
The only problem was that I missed out on my own personal workout prior to running this morning’s Saturday 9 am workout session.
I get my own workout in and I feel jazzed up and ready to crush the day with lots of energy and excitement.
How about you?
I wanted that going for me because it was a big day in Workout Hero Club’s history.
You see, it was the first day ever in it’s existence that my own fitness hero…
… my mother…
… would be doing her first workout at my gym.
I was super nervous and excited at the same time.
You see, my mom has been working out,
… into fitness,
… and a “health nut” my whole life.
I remember being a little kid and waking up real early morning…
… and there was my mom working out to Jane Fonda VCR tapes in the living room. ๐
“And a 1 and 2 and 3-4-5. Hold it right there, ladies… go till you feel the burn. Good job! You’re doing so good!”
My determined mother would go on to teach aerobics class to all the other moms and ladies of our church in the church’s basement.
She designed her own workouts to go to the beat of the music and she brought little kid me along to hit the “PAUSE” button in between songs so she could demonstrate the moves.
This was the 80’s and 90’s and she was at the forefront of the “Jazzercise” movement too.
She rocked the big hair…
… leg warmers
… headbands
… and bright pink leotard (did I spell that right?? What a strange word, am I right?? ๐ค๐)
I grew up fat and chubby and my mom’s fitness influence didn’t rub off on me until my early 20’s.
That was when I had my first body transformation after getting my heart broke and determined to lose the weight,
make my ex jealous
and win her back.
Even though the good example my momma dearest set didn’t show itself until my young adulthood…
… the life she led by example was always a part of me.
And that “healthy fit lifestyle” wasn’t such a big thing for me to adopt.
I am forever grateful and love my mom for that.
Which is why today was such a big deal.
Because it has now gone full circle with me following God’s Call for my life and opening up my own gym and starting this Workout Hero brand.
And now my mom coming in today for a workout
My mom is now in her 60’s
and still working out and crushing it.
Still living a healthy fit lifestyle.
Gets accused all the time of looking and performing DECADES below her actual age.
Is still one of my biggest fans.
Is still my Workout Hero.
I was nervous today about not wanting to disappoint her and happy to report that she loved it!
I share this story with you today for one very important reason…
… especially if you have kids (or grandkids!)
You know probably better than anyone how much they pay attention to us.
With 100% certainty i can say I would not be in this fitness world if my mom didn’t at first show me the way.
Not only did she get all the benefits from being healthy and fit…
But one of the truest displays of love that ever was…
… she gifted it to me too. ๐
Now I get to pass it onto my son and the next generation.
When I tell you that “Your Awesome Future Awaits”, know that it isn’t just yours that awaits,
… but also your loved little ones too.
I so appreciate you for it and I want you to know how much you matter.
I am beyond thrilled I was able to play my part as your Guide to help you and them get there.
Till next time,
Your Guide and biggest fan,
Erick
